About Me

I'm Miguel Elias Mitre Campista, born in the beautiful city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I received my Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2003, and my M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2005 and 2008, respectively. I'm an associate professor with the Electronic and Computer Engineering Department of Poli/UFRJ and a full professor with the Electrical Engineering Program (PEE) of COPPE/UFRJ. I have spent one year as an invited Professor with LIP6 at the UPMC Sorbonne Université, in France, in 2012. I'm currently a recipient of the PQ2 fellowship from the Brazilian government (CNPq), Young Scientist of Rio de Janeiro State ("Jovem Cientista do Nosso Estado") award from FAPERJ, and Affiliate Membership of the Brazilian Academy of Science (ABC). In addition, I'm currently the head of the Special Commission for Computer Networks and Distributed Systems of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and on the board of directors of the National Laboratory of Computer Networks (LARC). I'm an Associate Editor of the Annals of Telecommunications journal and an IEEE senior member.

I'm a member of the Grupo de Teleinformática e Automação (GTA) team, a really inspiring lab full of exceptional people. My ORCID ID is 0000-0002-8752-9382 and my ResearcherID is G-3402-2012.

Main Research Interests

Computer Networking: This research area is broad enough to include many topics on networking that really catches my attention. I'm always an enthusiast about new Internet architectures, communication protocols, and applications. Nevertheless, in the last few years most works have addressed wireless networking and mobility. This includes many hot topics such as IoT and vehicular networking.
Cloud Computing: In this research area, I'm currently investigating new architectures and the interaction between cloud and mobile users. I have mainly used OpenStack, which alone brings already a lot of complexity. The deployment of the fog and also the data produced by users are challenges also addressed.
Network Science: In this research area, the focus is on graph modeling of dynamic systems including mobile and social networks. The idea is to reveal network information using different approaches, such as data mining techniques and new centrality metrics.
